I was told on Friday to start playing with Windows XP SP2 and the only problem I've run into so far is that it doesn't get along so well the McAfee Framework Service.  When I tried to manually launch an AutoUpdate using the VirusScan Console I recieved the following message:

Failed to initialize Common Updater subsystem. Make sure the McAfee Framework Service is running.

So, naturally, I pointed the Computer Management MMC Snap-in at my box and looked to see if the service had started and it had.  I restarted the service and still recieved the same message.  Hmmm, well Windows had automagically downloaded some updates and I agreed to install them...maybe a reboot would fix it? Nope :(  Luckily, the all-knowing google had an answer for me.  I found my answer here ..for the impatient I'll copy the relevant post:

It's a problem with the dcom settings of the Framework service. In Component Services -> DCOM Config check the Security setting on the FrameworkService.

Set launch/Activation to default.
