How to install Cisco VPN Client on Windows 2003

I previously posted about not being able to get Cisco's VPN client installed on my Windows 2003 server machine.  Cisco says they don't support the OS so they are absolutely no help whatsoever.  However, Morten posted a comment on my last post which led me to the solution!  He said that you have to use the NON-msi installer.  So per his advice I tried to install install the 4.0.5(A) NON-msi install package... and walla!  It worked like a charm!  VPN client works perfectly.  I'm not sure what the difference is between the two installers but the regular one worked just fine.  The other crazy thing is, the VPN client works just fine too.  Not any difference from when I used it on XP.

Thanks again Morten!

Hi Ray,

Thanks for this wonderful piece of information the experts-exchange said wasn't possible :) It worked perfectly for us once we downloaded the non-msi client version 4.0.5 (A) from Cisco.

Doesn't work for me. Tried all types of installers and versions, but always ended up with the same problem: everything works except Remote Desktop Connection (Terminal Services Client). Tried installing Terminal Services Web service on the destination server and eventually VNC, but no luck.
Any ideas?

Well I tried version 4.0.5 and doesn't work for me, then I tried different other versions until I found that version 4.6.02 work perfect on my Windows 2003 Enterprise edition box (whitout SP1).

Hi Pete,

which version is it? I searched the page of the Uni of Utrecht for the word "2003" and could'nt find the comment. Is it perhaps the last version posted on there ?

All help would be appreciated.
