I have a blog on ASP.NET !!!

This is my first blog entry here at geekdojo.net. First of all, many thanks to Ryan A. Rinaldi (of GeekDojo) for giving me an opportunity to blog here and Scott Watermasysk (.Text Blog engine) for his wonderful .Text Blog engine.

I think I should introduce myself. My name is Richard Hsu, I am a Chinese-Indian or Indian-Chinese, meaning I am a Chinese by origin and India is my country (I am here in Kolkata, India since my birth).

I am a developer (programmer) and for the last four months I have been coding entirely in C#/.Net. Strangely, my first assignment was developing an internal web based solution for my company Core Careers Pvt. Ltd. which I implemented in ASP.NET & WebMatrix. I said strange, because I had done very little in web based application development before and I wasn't looking forward to it either (ASP was not exactly programmer friendly). ASP.NET has enabled me to do 'web programming' without letting go of my VB6-Component Based-Event Driven programming habbits and I think Microsoft ASP.NET is a killer platform for web development.

Other than ASP.NET, I am completely in love with the Base Class Library. As a Visual Basic programmer, I didn't enjoy the benefit of Class Libraries that exisited in Java and C++. I didn't have StringBuilder (I implement a COM wrapper over Java's StringBuffer myself) or Standard C++'s findFirstOf (again I implemented an ATL COM wrapper). Not that I couldn't implement them myself in VB6, just that I didn't want to, plus, I learned a little bit of ATL also :-).

I am also a member of the local .Net User Group (http://groups.msn.com/kolkatanet)

In general, I am fairly geeky as I am always thinking about technology in general and programming in particular.

Regards,

Richard.
